levis epic

Levis Trow trails east of Neillsville were the site of a WEMS event (usually 12/6/3 hours) that included instead a 100 mile, 50 mile, 25 mile option, and the state championships for singlespeeders at 25 miles. I entered the 100, and finished 75 miles in11 hours 12 minutes. (TYVM). You had to do 1hr30m laps (12.5 miles) to finish in 12 hours. Organizer "allowed" for light and kept course open for 13 hours. Based on your splits, if you were back by 730pm, you "might" be able to go out for one more. I "could" of done another lap, but I had enough fun. Toad Road & Upper Hermosas downhill, and the Switchback uphill were by far the highlights of the lap. Weather was perfect. 60's. Rain in the morning where you knew it was raining out, but you weren't getting wet. Strong winds in the morning, gentle breezes by afternoon. Bluebird evening. These trails are as epic as they come. Actually, they are IMBA epic designated trails. Get over there and ride, but call me...I wanna go too

thoughts on duathlon?

The latest WEIRD multisport is biking/speed disc golf duathlon. Ride to determined course, speed 18 holes. Mass start. Clock stops for participant when they finish 18th hole. Fastest time with lowest score crowned WEIRD'est. Riders must carry gear, lock, and at least two discs and mark all shots (discs provided by weird). Off road versions will be hosted by the Winter Park Sports facility near Kewaunee. Triangles course has option of off road, but is it faster?? What could we call this workout?

clunkers

If you need a clunker for saturdays coffee clunker cruise, we gots some here for you to use. Our goal for the ride is to have everyones ARSE sore!!

Winter still hanging on

Back home, back on goes the woolies. WOW! Half a year of winter! Is this what global warming is? I am seeing more people out on the roads and trails.
Camp open May 1. Triangle is 80% open....some of the steep hills are still greazy. He-Nis-Ra should be good, but have not been there yet. Riverview is said to be in good shape, as should be Winter Park.....Do you know all these trails??
Roads are pretty clean now. Lots of pot holes and cracks are noticed this time of year, too. Skills to work on would be the bunny hop, panic stop, and the rock dodge...
It's an excellent time of year to work on wind gusts and riding into wind. (with the wind is too easy).

Tours and skill classes are available 5 nights a week, as well as 7 days a week. WEIRD works out on your schedule. To schedule one, call 371-2227

Gone

Those whole 10 days in Atlanta.....GONE. That is one hell of a nice town!! My plan to blog daily fell apart...We parked the van when we got there, and never used it again for 8 days. Very pedestrian friendly, also bike friendly ( they drive fast, but they're nice, IF YOU FOLLOW THE RULES). There were a lot of BAD cyclist down there. It was very hilly for cycling ALL the time!! It is the #2 reason more locals dont ride. We rode a path from near downtown, all the way out to Stone Mountain. (24 miles one way) There is this huge rock out in nowheres land?? Massive relief statue in the rock that makes Rushmore seem small. We rode the 6 mile "loop" of the park....WOW!! Shaded most of the way around, one lane for traffic, a bike lane, a runner lane, and a sidewalk.. It was as close to heaven as I've been on a bike, ever....then we rode back to downtown (24 miles). We felt the Decatur area was what we were looking for. Unlimited job potential. I want to duplicate what we wanted to do here. What do you think of when you hear urban guide??

The annual CCC is May 3...9am is the time from KaVarna. This ride is meant for clunkers, classics, cruisers, muscle or pixies, or any human powered vehicle, as we will ride 13 miles in three hours, stop at 3 coffee shops, and have a parade pace ride inbetween. No fees for this ride, but this is an introduction to what a WEIRD tour could be like...

WEIRD Tours

OK...lets not think of anything as training. Training is tough. How 'bout we use the word tour as the description? Training is just a benefit. I see way too many "skiers" who are out there just for the workout. "Bikers" who think commuting miles are junk miles? Runners who always run the same pace, same course, same way, same time, etc....By going into tour mode, thinking of the exercise as a adventure with a specific goal at the end, WEIRD puts the joy back into our games of choice.
WEIRD Tours are being booked now from this blog. WEIRD Tours can be combined for multiple sports. WEIRD Tours can have an educational aspect. Watch for more info. Three free tours for the first three weirdo's to respond to this post

best riding in the city

Riding around the last few day, I realized the Kress Trail is the best "in city" winter cycling venue. Still need studs for the best effect, but it is plowed and traffic free. I have used this trail many times this year, going back and forth. Twice with 2 or better inches of snow, no other tracks!! Ahhhhh......also, the Cora Vanderperren trail around East high is plowed, making a nice loop combined with the Kress.

winter returns

THIS is the best snow season in decades!! It wont stop! Bicycling conditions are in one word - messy - very tough conditions since before christmas!! I have only "1" road ride with dry roads and partial sun...... river and bay ice had about a 10day season so far...yesterdays warm slop sent what was bettering conditions on Bairds Creek bye-bye. Good snowshoe running in all parks and preserves. Skiing has been available since like November. All Wisconsin trails are top notch! Telefest happening this weekend up at the Porkies. superb conditions on Lake Superior. Get out and get WEIRD. Going out riding today to test the alleyways....main roads are aweful wet and salty and cruddy and hostile, but its better than a trainer anytime!
